Cotton is a soft and fluffy natural fibre that grows around of the seeds of the cotton plants, the genus Gossypium of the plant family Malvaceae. Cotton fibre is spun into a yarn or threat to create a soft, versatile and breathable fabric.
Due to its versatility, cotton is used in a wide range of clothing projects, including demin for blue jeans, corduroy, terrycloth for bath towels or robes, and cotton T-shirts.
Cotton can be combined with other fibres, the most common being a blend of cotton and polyester fibres. It can also be mixed into linen-cotton blends, which give wrinkle-resistant and lightweight qualities.
